Hey there, Happy FriYay!
Seems like I just wrote that...there goes Time going too fast again!
This week's theme is Snow Queen. That brings to my mind the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale by the same name, and that is one of my all-time LEAST favorite fairy tales. When I was a child I had beautifully bound books of both The Brothers Grimm and HCA. And when I had this story read to me or read it myself, I found her to be mean and unfeeling and completely selfish.
Plus I was in constant fear of glass shards falling on me and being kidnapped.
So, I made my Snow Queen look a little evil as much as I could and borrowed from rock group Foreigner for the title. I used a Sheepski digital freebie (no longer offered) called Ice Queen for my image, coloring her with Promarkers and Colored Pencils and accenting with gold and silver glitter and metallic gel pens. I added the title in PSE using the Winter Beauty font and added a Cottage Cutz icicle border die at top, edged with blue Promarker. I ran multiple layers of white Posca paint pen around the edge to finish. I tried to make her eyes look as dead as possible. This is the first time I've used the image, so she was right there in my files waiting for this!
Here you can see the gold and silver gel penning effect.
And last look.
I will use this as a January winter decoration.
It will look right at home with the deep freeze weather headed our way!
I can also use it for Christmas.
Thanks for visiting and have a great day!

That is definitely an evil looking image but I love the shades of blue :)

Yes that image makes me feel cold, especially with the icicles on the top. Fabulous winter card, thanks for sharing with us at Simply CAS!
She is lovely, but she definitely looks a little bit intense. Maybe even evil. I like the icicles you have hanging along the top.I'm glad you linked her up to TIOT as she is perfect for our latest challenge. Thank you. And I had beautiful bound copies of those 2 fairy tale sets too. I don't remember the snow queen, but I probably read it (or had it read to me) and didn't like it. Actually a lot of those fairy tales weren't exactly warm and cuddly. It goes to show how people teach children about the world now and back then (1800's I think). Of course Disney makes everything look so beautiful in their films and none of the original tales even match the atmosphere of their newest films. For good or bad. No judgement here. Have a great weekend. hugs-Erika
ps-Thanks for interesting little blurb about Melville and Hawthorne too. Who knew?
Lovely piece, very elegant, but cold and sparkly. Sorry you didn't like the tale back when! Have a great weekend, take care, stay warm! Hugs, Valerie

What a great image and the use of glitter on the stones is perfect for her too.
It's a fabulous creation Aimeslee and you managed well to make her look cold as ice. I too had bound books of the Grimms Brothers and Hans Christian Andersen. There are several stories that were so scary to read, I'm sure they are part of why I'm such a scaredy cat LOL. I did read those fairy tales A LOT in my childhood (in my native German language).
Thanks so much for sharing at I spy with my little eye!
