Back to School Measurements

Happy Friday, hope you have a nice weekend planned.
We finally got rain! Cumulative this week for us is a little over 3 inches!
Temps are nice, too. We had storms, of course, and power was knocked out but our generator saved us from that. Only problem has been cable internet. If Honey and I could figure out how to keep that on, life would be pretty perfect. I've been waiting all afternoon and evening to post, so hopefully now it's back on for good as the front causing the storms has largely blown through.
So, my challenge requirements for this 4x6 art piece were: ruler or measuring tape, back to school and either books, tea or cats. I found this awesome quote online and then found this Bugaboo boy sitting on a ruler in my computer files. I knew I had the apple and cat dies, so this is what I came up with.
Here's a close-up of the quote I snagged off the internet, printed, cut with a circle punch, edged with a red pencil and matted onto a larger punched circle of scrap paper edged with a dark brown pencil.
I love this and think it's a great piece of advice for everyone, not just students!

Also wanted to show the before and after: the originally printed piece after resizing and layering the Bugaboo digi onto my matted PSE file. I used Polychromos colored pencils to color the boy and the ruler. Then I scribbled the background with watercolor pencils and used a damp brush to activate and let that dry under a large acrylic block. Then, I added the die cuts: a Sizzix apple that I colored with the pencils, and 2 cats cut with Art Impression mini-dies out of brown scrap card.
Last look.
I've ordered a nice linen covered 4x6 photo album to keep these art pieces in, so I plan to do lots more. They are fun and don't take all that long to do. I can also print out and add any that I do digitally as well.
Thanks for visiting and have a good one!

One of the things I like about Autumn is starting back to school for the kids. Even though we are empty nesters, it brings memories of my own first-day-of-school years as well as our daughter's, making for a sentimental familiarity and yearning for turning leaves and cooler temps.
I've used Art Impressions Cats Mini Dies
2 Cats and Apple
Mixed media: Printer ink, water, watercolor pencils, wax pencils, paper

very beautiful Page!
It's good that nothing else happened to you in the bad storm and that was enough!
Take care of yourself, hug Elke

Great Bug a Boo image. I miss their images. I love the coloring you added to this too. This would make a great teacher card. My son and his girl friend are both going to school to be teachers. I need to add a few more teacher images to my collection.

This is so cute. I'm so glad to hear electricity was your only problem; storms have been bad in North America. We've had several tornados that touched down around me.

Sorry to hear you lost your cable, but at least you had power. And rain! We're having some light rain and wind from the remains of the Hurricane right now, but nothing much to speak of. WE were lucky it moved further out to sea, but hopefully the people further north who get hit with it don't get too much damage.

This is a fun back to school piece and that sentiment is so true, but sometimes we've all most likely measured ourselves against other people. Sadly. I love how you added the apple and those 2 cats. This makes it perfect for Elle's challenge at AJJ. That's a great idea to have an album to store all these mini art pieces in. I like this size too. You can do a lot without having to do too much.

I hope you have some great weekend weather now that the rain is gone. hugs-Erika

Sorry about the storms, but I'm happy that your generator is working, that's a great blessing. Your school card is lovely, and the quote is very wise indeed. Here we had a sunny day, but too hot, and now it's raining outside, lovely!I hope you will have a good weekend. Hugs, Valerie

What a terrific card - that sentiment needs to be posted everywhere to remind people not to compare themselves to others! Love it :)

You've created a fantastic "back to school" card, and the cute bugaboo image is such a wonderful motif to work with. I like how you expanded the motif by adding a few fun embellishments, and the sentiment is really a piece of wisdom. I wonder how many anxieties could be (at least partially) alleviated if we learned to not always compare ourselves to somebody/something else, and learn instead to be content with what we are and what we have. Thanks for joining the Alphabet challenge.

Hugs, Veronika
