Crafting by Candlelight

Hello again - I'm back online. Honey and I have survived! We lost power Sunday evening and throughout much of the week. Monday night was the worst of it, 19 degrees outside and 50 degrees in the house. I told Honey I now know why all the old-timey pictures showed people in their bedclothes with head coverings! We had to wear our ski caps and scarves, lol. Then, rolling blackouts, which were worse in my opinion, because I would get confused between the two. Habits are hard to break. Then our municipal water plant failed, so no water. Luckily we lived on our bottled water supply and melted snow/ice water to fill the toilet tanks.

Anyway, life this past week was at times minute by minute survival for WE the uninitiated so when I could, I took possession of one of our battery lanterns and a couple of candles into my playroom and tried to craft. First I colored a bunch of images and then I tried putting together some cards. It was hard not being able to look on my computer at my stamp files, sketches and other supplies, so I simplified. No heat embossing, used only color-coordinated papers, etc. Luckily, I was able to find a few sketches when I was able to get enough bars on my phone to navigate the web.

I found this Split Coast Stamper Sketch 420 and used a premade 5x5" square red DCWV card base along with Basic Grey's Color Me Silly 12x12" designer paper, my new-to-me Crafters Companion Gemini Torn Edge Square dies and a Bugaboo digi image called 4 Block Tulip Square colored with my Promarkers.

On the inside I used stamps from Crafty Secrets and Clear Dollar with BG paper. On back, more BG paper and a Technique Tuesday stamped and circle-punched siggie.

And a final view. Candlelight crafting simplified! And lots of fun to color a Spring image, too. Thanks for visiting - I still am way behind in my blog visiting and I hope you will forgive me. I will catch up with ya! Oh, and...

Yes, it snowed! Just a dusting, but it stayed for days because of sustained freezing temps and I cannot ever remember seeing that before.

I took photos the first night with more snow, but they came out really dark. These photos were taken the second day, a "panoramic" of my view from my front porch, left to right. The last of the snow on our roof melted yesterday, so it was on there almost 4 days, quite rare for us.

Sorry that you had to go through such a hard time. Brrr. Another bright and lovely card. You have an eye for colour that for sure. I hear you when you say you depend on the computer for layouts, etc. Hope your weekend is warm and enjoyable my friend.

Sounds like you were both very resourceful, love that you melted snow for the toilet! hahahaha. I can imagine how great it was to get the heating on! You coloured beautifully, in candlelight too. I love the card, such pretty colours and design Aimeslee.

Sorry to hear how you've been going through it! I hope things are improving. If it's not one thing it's another! Love this card, love the image and the colours and the dots. I should use more dots. When we get snow, it's often a dusting like that which disappears in no time.

Oh, I love the images on this card! They are colored so beautifully! Gorgeous card. I hope all is going well for you now and you have power back. What a mess it's been there. I have seen it on the news every night. Biden should have gotten moving much earlier.

This made me laugh! Not at your misfortune, but at how we are all so used to our home comforts with running water, electricity and warmth! Kudos for trying to craft in the circumstances! Thanks for sharing your effort with Country View Challenges, it's a welcome sign of Spring!

I love your beautiful card, Aimeslee! I have an image of you in my head - you're making it by candle light, all snuggled up under a blanket with your scarf and ski cap and probably finger-less gloves. You did a super job - the colours are so bright and cheerful and the recipient is bound to love it.
Thank you for sharing your project with us at the Crafts Galore Encore “Anything Goes” February Challenge. Good Luck and hope to see you again soon!

I lived in snow country up on tablelands when kid we had enough snow to make snowman and it stayed like yours... very unusual to last there too though winter snow not uncommon.. usually thaws quickly.
LOVE this card.. well done. I rarely use a layout design so that wouldn't worry me.
Thanks for sharing, and may God bless and keep you and all whom you love safe and well.
Prayer hugs, Shaz in Oz. X

Hi Aimeslee, I love this card too, loving the "Spring" feel to it with the bright colours. Another lovely entry for our challenge at More Mixed Media.
I want to Thank You so much for your visits and comments to my blog, I very appreciate you taking time out to do that.
It seems years ago since we first knew each other through Artistic Outpost, during a tidy up and sort out of my craft room, well my garage actually as I don't drive, I sorted through all my stamps, as always Artistic Outpost were stroked the most and lovingly put back in order in the drawer, lol.
I often see them pop up for sale on Ebay, most I already have, a few aren't really my style, but I always look at any that come along, just incase, lol.
I hope you are keeping well, take care...xx
