'OWL-right' Summer Grad Card for Nephew

Hello Again and Happy Hump Day to all! As August will become September before we know it and Summer begins winding down, that means Summer graduations, albeit virtual/digital ones instead of in-person. Another one of my fabulous nephews has graduated from John Hopkins School of Advanced Int'l Studies with a Masters degree and is already at work up in Washington D.C. I made this card to congratulate him.

Since he is a Texan, he knows well our state obsession with all things Matthew McConaughey, Texas' unofficial ambassador to the world, lol. (I personally pronounce it McCona-HUNK-a-Hey and yes I drool and sigh as I'm saying it). So, I know our nephew will get a kick out of my references to MM's first break-out role in Dazed and Confused, which is pretty much the Texas version of American Graffiti for those who've never seen it.

The owl is a Bugaboo image and I colored him with Promarkers and Polychromos colored pencils. I used a Split Coast Stampers sketch from 2012, resizing it to 5x7. I'm usually pretty good at sizing my digital images for the sketch, but this one printed out just a tad too big for some reason. Oh well. Using it anyway - artistic license! lol

Papers: SU card stock; miscellaneous papers by DCWV, KI Memories and Junkitz; K&Co. embossed vellum
Images/Stamps: Bugaboo, Inkadinkado
Inks: Promarkers, printer, VersafineClair
Dies: Spellbinders A7 Card Basics
Other: Polychromos colored pencils, Cuttlebug Congrats embossing folder, blue embroidery thread

I used some very old embossed vellum and also dry-embossed the vertical striped strip with a folder to highlight the "So Proud" section of it.

I computer-generated the "Owl-Right"' sentiments and cut them at an angle. I used embroidery thread for a messy and simple tassel and fussy-cut a stamped button for his cap, both to keep things flat for mailing.

The inside: I wrote him a special message printed on old-skool typing bond from my stash. I also matted both sides with a cool geographical word salad that I thought he would find interesting since he is wanting to serve in the State Department. I attached the folded sentiment sheet with a very thin strip of Scor-Tape.in the spine of the card base.

The back: I used more of the embossed vellum paper with leftover scraps and a stamped IO siggie.

Close-Up on the owl...isn't he proud!

Well, I hope you enjoyed the post and thank you coming by to visit me. I am going to be offline almost certainly after Wednesday early evening thanks to Hurricane Laura. I'd really appreciate prayers that the winds don't blow us or our 50-year-old home away. Because I am immuno-comprised with my multiple arthritis's, I cannot really afford to be exposed to COVID as my odds of survival would not be not great. I'm just praying God lets me continue to stay self-quarantined...and alive! Okay, see y'all on the sunshiny side when our electricity is restored! XOXOXO
