SEAS the Birthday for Love to Craft Challenge Blog

Hello and Happy Saturday! Today's February 1st and it's the start of the new month-long  Anything Goes Challenge #43 over at Love to Craft. There are only a few basic rules and everyone's welcome to play, so check it out! If it's a new make, not completely digital, and it's decent, it qualifies.

I am sharing a whimsically-styled, clean and collage-layered 6X6 nautical birthday card as my DT sample make this time. I made this card for a VERY dear girlfriend who is fun-loving and adventurous, AND having the time of her life dating a man ten years her junior {oolaLA!} They are so cute together, too. I knew I could do something fanciful and she'd be all in.

I used papers from Websters Pages 6x6 Spring Market/Yacht Club/Country Estates collection.

I chose these papers (oops, I realize now the yellow-gold anchor paper I also used is missing. I must have chosen it after taking this pic + plus a few stash snippets as needed). I did a little cut and paste work with the 2 illustrated papers. I fussy cut the fence top from the sky. Then with a craft knife, I cut out the fence openings. That way I could have the blue card stock wave die cut showing through behind the fence but in front of the whale paper. I matted the finished scene layer on a black card stock scrap.

I used multiple dies on this card: the Sizzix sun, the Cottage Cutz seagulls, the Quickutz Squeeze clouds, the My Favorite Things blue waves, and the Spellbinders 6x6 Art Deco Fairmont Nesties for the front and back bottom paper layers. I also used some very old alpha stickers for the front sentiment "Seas the Birthday".

I've had some tiny sea shells in my stash forever and said to myself, Self, let's obey the wild hair and use a few! I attached them in a cluster to the paper using my trusty KIMemories Gloo (which is identical to Glossy Accents and Diamond Glaze). After that dried, I then poured a little more over the cluster, so they are on there good and strong!

Some of you who have been reading me for awhile may remember THIS Sea-themed tag I made back in May 2019?
I had said I was going to put it on a card and then never did. Poor thing, it soon became a UFAP (UnFinished Art Project) living in a shoebox lid. But when the idea came to me to do this birthday card, I realized the tag would fit right in. Trouble was, no room on the card front.

So, I ordered a few pocket dies I saw on Amazon and made an inside tag pocket. Problem solved! I have now done 2 cards with this Poppies die. You saw the other one last week: the shabby chic card.

A view of the inside of the card. The sentiments are Uniko stamps (a challenge win from last year).

For the back background layers I used the leftovers from the front. I combined some small snippets and then stamped my custom siggie on one.

Here are the rest of the pics --

I hope you enjoyed seeing how my whimsical card was made and didn't mind all the photos. Today Honey and I are out of town watching our precious daughter marry her wonderful fiance'. We'll be back to home and normal tomorrow. Well, hopefully only a bit worn-out and very happy it went well. I will share photos once they are available.

Thank you for allowing me to share my creativity with you. And don't forget to check out Love to Craft Challenge Blog to see what the rest of the team has made to inspire you and make you want to join in the fun! Happy Weekend to all! XXO

What a neat nautical theme and I do like that pocket on the inside. I didn’t even know pocket dies were a thing. TFS!

Hi, Aimes! BEST EVER oceanic collage card. I would frame this because of its nostalgic sweetness, allusions to classics, and fabulous design elements. I see myself at the beach, reading a good book, listening to the gulls, and enjoying a picnic. IT'S WONDERFUL, right down to the pretty interior. Hoping the wedding went off without a hitch. love, de

What a fabulous card, full of fun and energy. I love the tiny figures in the foreground with their wagons, and the typography lettering across the middle is really cool.
