So, A Girl and Her Cat Go Trick or Treating...

Hello, Blog Lovelies!! Tuesday greetings and it's a another trip to the MLB World Series for our Houston Astros, so this will be yet another week of stressful excitement, the biggest one! Hopefully, I'll find plenty of time to de-stress with art play! The card I'm sharing today makes me giggle at the thought that this sweet little girl could ever get her cat to wear a costume and go trick or treating with her - HA!

I made this Halloween card with a Mo's Digital Pencil image called appropriately enough Trick or Treat .  It's colored with ProMarkers and Zig Writers (I basically used the Zigs to color the skinny areas as it has a fine tip, the rest was ProMarkers). Only part of it is colored because I used a variation of the Spotlight Technique, which is why I die cut and colored a smaller shape inside my larger die cut image that highlights it (and the variation is coloring the sky and ground on the outer die and leaving only the part of the image on the outer die uncolored - a strict interpretation would be not to color anything on the outer die - hope that is clearer than mud at least!). After I did the strict version, it just did not look right to me and the variation looks better. Go figure.

I used the current Outlawz Wednesday sketch but I flipped it horizontally. I also flipped the Mo image horizontally, come to think of it. Now, why did I do all that???? Can't remember now. Oh well!

SUPPLIES:
Papers: Orange pre-made A2 card blank and envelope, Chatterbox textured card stock, DCWV and Junkitz patterned paper snippet scraps, Neenah white index stock
Stamps: Mo's Digital Pencil image Trick or Treat, Sweet Stamp Shop and Pink By Design inside sentiments, Impression Obsession siggie
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, ProMarkers, Zig Writer pigment markers
Dies: QK Squeeze 2x2 Bats, Spellbinders Labels 3 and A2 Polkadot Frames, Stamps of Life Stitched Rectangles
Other/Stash: Tim Holtz Seasonal Chit Chat Stickers, flat-back glass stars, Halloween text and polkadot ribbons,

Here is the entire Mo digital stamp before I colored any of it, and also here are the snippets of patterned papers I worked with.

I used a pre-made card blank with a matching envelope, an extra from years ago Halloween party invites, a cut piece of green card stock mat from my stash and a smaller mat of ghouls and goblins Halloween paper cut with my Stamps of Life stitched rectangles die. I die cut my entire image out and then cut another piece with the same die. Then I used a smaller nested die to cut the spotlighted area of the image and cut another of that size. I matted the colored larger piece on top of the extra of that size. Then, I fitted in the extra smaller piece and matted the spotlighted colored one on that. It makes the spotlighted piece stand up a bit, one paper breadth. I used my UHU gluestick for the adhesive. This all made my focal element stiffer and able to be popped up a bit over the ribbon using some half-height dimensionals I have.

Here's the inside of the card. I repeated the die cutting of the patterned paper and then added a die cut polkadot framed snippet where I stamped my sentiments. I just love that patterned paper!

On the back of my card, I used another die cut piece of patterned paper along with a strip of stripes and a curved snippet of white that I colored with the cool ghoulish green and stamped with my siggie.

I made this card for my friend that I exchange art with. She will appreciate the technique. I hope you aren't tired of seeing Halloween cards, because I think I will have a few more to share. No telling what they will be, though. I never really know until I decide the sketch and /or challenges!

Super cute and a fun take on the spotlight technique. My big orange guys would NEVER let us dress him up in a costume like this; he would be so offended! : ) Thanks for playing with The House That Stamps Built.
