As The Dragon Flies...

Hello there, it's Fri-Yay! I hope you are planning something fun this weekend as we honor the Dads in our lives...which reminds me, I need to get going on Honey's card! For now though, I have a 4x6 artist post card to share with you that I then added onto the front of a 5x7" birthday card! Grab a cuppa if you have the time and get comfy. Lots of photos today!

So... my color scheme is Lemon Yellow, Lime Green and Black because that is Lost Coast Design's current challenge. I went into this not liking this combo and it took me making this to be a fan. I used the brightest yellows I could find and I think that helped. I made an Artist Post Card because I wanted to play at Sunday Post Card Art's Dragonflies challenge. I have had this Technique Tuesday Boho Buzz dragonfly stamp for years and never inked it up that I remember. This was also a good opportunity for me to use my Spellbinders Botanical Swirls cover plate die as well. I cut white index stock and used a Copic to color it lime green.

I wanted a sun and sunshine peeking through my botanicals die, as bright as possible so I turned to my Neon ink and my Spectrum Noir Flourescent yellow marker. Combining these with Squeezed Lemonade and Fossilized Amber Distress inks gave me really cool looking sunburst after stenciling with a Crafters Workshop Mini-Sunburst stencil.  I shifted the stencil around slightly to color the entire circle and got that really cool inner circle.

I just kept blending the colors until I liked it.

Then I adhered my botanical die using spray adhesive. LOVE THAT STUFF for intricate dies!

I stamped 4 of the dragonflies with VersaMark, heat-embossed them with Ranger Black Sparkle EP, colored them all with Copics and then fussy cut them out. I blinged them using Sakura glitter gel pens and yellow and gold Winks of Stella.
I attach 2 of the dragonflies using ScorTape on their bodies and thin dimensionals under the wings. I added 3 gold flower sequins and edged my post card with black chalk ink.

CHALLENGES FOR 4X6"ARTIST POST CARD:
1.  Sunday Post Card Art: Dragonflies

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Okay, so next is the birthday card I made using the 4x6" artist post card.

I cut a piece of flourescent yellow DCWV card stock to a 5x7 card, added some lime green SU card stock matting and DCWV black plaid paper under the artist post card to frame it.

I used this current Fusion sketch as my inspiration, as well as the bright neon colors on the VW bus.

The inside of my card uses stamps by I Brake for Stamps, Woodware, Verve Visuals and Avery Elle. Ink used was VersaFine Clair Nocturne.

A close-up attempting to show the glittery wings, very apparent and lovely in person.

I stamped the Studio Calico Time Flies stamp and the Clear Dollar Another Birthday? stamp with VersaMark and then heat-embossed using Ranger Lemon Yellow and Fern Green EP's. I played with using them both here. I now have a little leftover mixture of yellow and green, which is a bit weird but another challenge to figure out how to use it, lol. My die cut is Spellbinders Labels 14.

Another close-up attempting to show the glittery wings...

I hope you liked my artist post card on a greeting card! If nothing else, I bet the photos woke you up, heehee! Yellow is so good for my soul, I should put more of it in my life!

Its a beautiful sunshine stencil , the post card looks lovely with the dragon flies and leaf details.
It is a good idea to use it on a card, the layering does change the look and I think it looks awesome as a Birthday card.

That's the perfect die cut for dragonflies. They love to zoom in and out of vegetation! I actually just saw some cool dragonflies yesterday - their bodies were white and their wings black. Really pretty!

Your card is striking. I like all the layers in it. Thanks for sharing it with us for our Cut it Up for our Welcome Summer challenge!

How bright and pretty are the colors you used in your card...and using the yellow stencil sunrays against the green flair of color is a great background for your embossed butterflies. You have also met the requirement for Double Trouble Challenge using stencils and/or embossing and would love you to include this in our Challenge since we are partnering with 2CCC's and our challenge is still open for today...hope to see you there.

Another amazing creation, Aimeslee! I would never have thought of using a stencil behind a background like that - and it is STUNNING! It has brought so much life and motion to your fantastic card. Beautifully colored dragonflies, too! So glad I got to see your critter project showcased at the 2 Crafty Critter Crazies Challenge. Hope to see more of your creations in the future.
