Hello, hope all are well and enjoying a good weekend,
Supplies:
Paper: 150# tagboard card base; SU, Springhill Digital, DCWV, silver glitter paper, handmade pulp paper
Background: LOTV Mystical Skies Digital Backing Paper
Gecko Galz Steampunk digital collage sheet image
Stamps: Lost Coast Designs, Crafty Secrets, Leave Memories (Inside: SeeD's, Inkadinkado, CHF, Pink Paislee)
Inks: Printer, Distress Oxides, Versamagic, Versafine
Stash: Stickles, stars, iridescent snowflakes
Our daughter and son-in-love are big adventurers. Their passion is music and they think nothing of flying to a music festival for the weekend, attending several every year. In fact, they met at a Father John Misty concert and a few years later he popped the question at that year's Misty concert. They've even managed to find festivals to attend throughout the pandemic in Las Vegas, California and New York. So, new adventure had to be the theme for their New Year card. And it had to be a big card!
I love a sketch that's wide open and leaves me a lot of improvisation room. I could literally see my idea for this card, so hey, had to use it! But I needed to flip it horizontally to accommodate my flying elements better. I also resized it to 6x9".
I recently uncovered in my Black Hole of Stash some 9x12" very sturdy (150#) sheets of Dick Blick tag board. I forgot why I bought it now, but when I realized I could score and fold a sheet in half and have a 6x9" surface to create on, I decided to use it for my card base. As I also have some 7x10" catalogue envelopes left from my accounting biz inventory, I thought that would be a good fit for mailing it.
I'd also found some really cool digital backing papers from LOTV (you thought they just made adorable digital stamps, huh?), so I printed out one for my background that I thought looked good for a winter sky, but I lightened it in PSE first to make it more grey and the colors less intense. I continued the grey thing by stamping my flying people on SU grey card with Versafine Clair Paradise Blue ink. I cut some of that fabulous thick winter white handmade paper I've hoarded for the snowy hill in the forefront. I found words in my stamp stash (guessing Crafty Secrets and Leave Memories) to create the sentiment with. I added Stickles and stars and snowflakes to embellish.
Inside, I've stamped sentiments by Pink Paislee, Inkadinkado, Cornish Heritage Farms and Sugar Loaf See D's, on a piece of old world stationery paper from stash.
On back, a mat of Kraft card and a piece of patterned paper from DCWV Maps, Texts & Ledgers 8x8 pad. I cut a Spellbinders label from the SU and stamped a See D's siggie in Versamark and white-heat-embossed it.
A couple of close-ups to show the glitter and shine from the iridescent snowflakes, silver glitter stars, Stickles and the Viva Decor Pearl Pen. Also, check out that thick handmade paper I used for the snow. The texture really makes it look a bit real!
And a final view. I hope the kids get a kick out of the little mixed media scene. I got one making it. Have a good weekend and stay well and crafty! xoxo

ReplyDeleteWell Aimeslee, you have certainly nailed the Steampunk theme and awesome colours and background. I will admit it's one that terrifies me and I'm always filled with dread when I receive stamps for a TV show following that theme.
