Hello, sweet blogging peeps, hope everyone is doing well. Honey and I have been feeling "off". I have just about decided that mine is allergies/sinus since December-January is a high pollen month for certain trees I'm allergic to where I live. I seem to have a constant headache and my eyeballs hurt and seem irritated, also drainage and occasional cough. And on days when the barometric pressure is high, it's worse. But no fever. We even got a handheld gun-type thermometer for accuracy and both of us are always normal. Just waiting for it to pass and feel better, all we can do.
Today's card is the product of one of those "what if I..." experiments using supplies on hand. Plus, an interest in making a fun fold, albeit a very simple one. Double D Challenge celebrates 6 years this month with theme being Balloons, so I wanted to play. We have a neighbor who brought us a nice tin of snack mix over the holidays and her birthday is next week so I made her this.
I started with choosing this Splitcoaststampers sketch because it's for making this type of fun fold. If you know the name of it, please tell me in the comments because I used to know but forgot. It says not to rotate the sketch (they didn't want any "kickstand" cards, lol). Well, I wanted it landscape so I took the liberty of stretching it horizontally (reversing the length and width). That gave me room for the embossed balloons border and the little Starstampz girl digi (called Balloons and Ice Cream). I did think my sentiment square block looked better a little differently placed so I took that liberty as well..
After cutting my A7 base from a sheet of 8.5x14" Office Depot card stock, cutting 1/5" off the front and then matting with SU blue card stock, I added this piece I had stamped in Versamark and heat-embossed in white using an Impression Obsession Cover A Card background stamp of clouds on a scrap of dull light blue card. I then tried sponging on white chalk ink with a finger dauber before trimming to fit and adhering.
I'd wanted to use this Darice embossing folder I had of balloons, so I embossed it and then tried powder chalking the balloons. Didn't get enough color saturation with just chalk, so I added a layer of various Palette inks, finger-daubered on, matching colors as well as I could. That gave the colors more juice but still soft. I like it. The Palette Hybrid "palette' colors are so beautiful, so that ink choice helped. I fussy cut the righthand edge and trimmed off the top and bottom to fit (the folder is an A2 size with the balloons on the left side of the folder). I also used s Sakura Gold Shadow metallic gel pen to outline the strings and to color the little indented "comma" on each balloon.
I matted the inside with more of the SU card. I covered the back of the protruding sentiment block with another die cut scalloped square.
I stamped the Darkroom Door sentiment with Paradise Blue Versafine Clair, making sure to place it behind the shorter card front.
For the matted back, I stamped a Kaiserkraft floral spray and siggie on a scrap of light blue card, then colored in the words with a Promarker. Just trying something different.
The Starstampz digi was colored with Promarkers and then fussy cut and glue-dotted on for just a touch of dimension.
The sentiment was created using a Spellbinders classic scalloped square as the frame for a Spellbinders classic square, on which I stamped the Stamplorations balloons and sentiment. I used my Ranger Big n Juicy rainbow pad ink for the balloons and Versafine Clair for the sentiment.
Here's a final view. I really like the light white color brightness and also the fact that the balloon folder, digital stamp, clouds stamp and sentiment stamp were all first-time use. That rarely happens with me, the old outnumbers the new usually. 😃😂 Thanks for visiting and have a great weekend!

This is so dang cute! I love her floating away. I'm glad I asked about the challenges. It would have annoyed the heck out of me to put the cards in the wrong folders. I am working on a really difficult picture right now for my DT. I can't even imagine actually being done with it and liking it. I actually chose it for the DT to choose from. I must have been out of my mind!
ReplyDeleteWhat a clever and creative lady you are Aimes, this is beauitful and will be received with love I'm sure. I hope you both recover soon, or the the trees behave themselves, if Arthur wasn't enough to deal with!
