Happy Christmas Eve to all, hope everyone is well and your festivities go as planned. I already know of some who are having to go to Plan B due to Omicron. I'll have 2 posts today. The one after this is for the new Festive Friday Challenge at Outlawz and features a birthday card. But now the matter at hand is still Christmas and I've made this card using paper scraps in my stash box. A vendor I used to buy from would send random sheets of 6x6 patterned paper with my orders, so I have a not-so-little pile of these sheets and have absolutely no idea who made them so I've tended not to use them, but now I'm thinking why let that stop me? Hardly any of my paper is still being sold, so how important is it to name brand? 😉
My 6x6 card base was cut from a 12x12 sheet of Making Memories card stock, then I added a base sheet of one of the mystery papers which has a light and airy mistletoe berry pattern. I printed a Eureka Stamps digi called Mistletoe Couple on Springhill Digital card, cut it with a Crafters Companion Gemini Torn Edge nested die and then colored it all with Promarkers. I colored the background with Ivory trying to capture the background of the berry paper, but it was more yellow, so I colored over it with a cool grey. Maybe warm grey would have worked better but I was not seeing a difference on my coloring test strip, so I'll try it again and see once the card is finished, because I didn't see til now how much reflecting all the red makes the background almost glow!
I also used the same Torn Edges square die one size larger to cut a framing mat for my image out of a scrap of red striped paper. I stamped 4 mistletoe leaves from a Catherine Pooler stamp set using Ranger Archival ink and cut them out with the coordinated die. I also cut some berries and colored them red. I arranged all these at the corners of the framed image. Then I colored a sentiment strip cut with a Lawn Fawn die and used Versafine ink to stamp the sentiment, which I think is a very old EKSuccess but don't quote me. I sure like the font, looks retro to me.
I chose this Splitcoaststampers sketch which I followed reasonably well. The only element I did not add was the flag at top right and that's because I already had the mistletoe in the image hanging pretty close to that area, plus I really wanted to use the leaves, so I left elements 3 and 6 off.
I've used another mystery sheet of patterned stash paper and stamped sentiments by Catherine Pooler and Papertrey Ink.
Still another mystery paper on back (the 3 sheets I used ought to be from the same collection if they aren't). And a stamped, colored, circle-punched Technique Tuesday siggie.
And a final view. This card went to a married couple, and although the image is reminiscent of the 19th century, I deliberately chose papers, sentiment font and dies to give it a light and airy contemporary look, like a comic strip frame maybe, and I hopefully accomplished that. Hope to see you for today's second post. XOX
