Easter Card #2: Piggy is the New Bunny

Howdy. I know, I know. What in the world am I talking about now? Haha well read on, you will find out why Piggy is the New Bunny !!!

This is our daughter and son-in-love's Easter card. He loves IHOP. He'd eat there every morning if he could. So when I saw this adorably cute pre-colored pig digi from The Paper Shelter, my gears started turning upstairs and pretty soon I'd figured a way to add an IHOP gift card to the mix. My 6x6" base is some no name brand cheap yellow thin card stock, just perfect to stiffen up with more card stock layers, and it makes the yellow flowers pop. The turquoise card stock is the same SU that I've been using here lately on other cards. And the designer paper mat is Prima's Madeline A4 pad paper that I inked and edge distressed with my chalk inks. I don't have any circle dies that big so I used my trusty Coluzzle to cut the pig's circle and mat (also distressed), saving his ears from the cut to hang out on top. The Happy Easter sentiment is an I/O die, as is the Top Dog Easter basket and egg dies. The egg the pig is holding is a leftover orphan from an unknown collage sheet. The basket grass is an I/O die cut, colored green with Promarkers. I adorned the basket front with a shiny vinyl turquoise flower from my stash.

I used SplitCoastStampers sketch SC533, resizing it in PSE to 6x6" and then following as is. I like that the sketch elements mimic the shape of a huge basket a little, lol. Didn't even notice that til it was all put together. Glad I matted the large focal point circle, as it creates the handle, lol.

The colors of my Prima paper flowers from my stash blended perfectly with the flowers in the image. I was in a hurry to finish this one to get it mailed, so no time for Viva Decor Pearl Pen to dry for 24 hours. I turned to Stickles which dries completely in a few hours. I added it to every paper flower center before adding a tiny enamel dot to each, and more Stickle dots to each flower center in the image. I traced the butterfly trails with my Clear Star Gelly Roll pen.

I brushed clear Wink of Stella over all the basket eggs colored with Promarkers before adhering. The basket was die cut with white card stock and I used a few light brown colored pencils to accent the weaving, top and handle, not too much as I wanted it to stay somewhat white. The square mat behind the basket was made out of the Prima scraps by using my deco scissors to trim the edges and adding a smaller square of Prima and outlining it with red and brown Piit Artist Pens.

The inside of the card has mats of the leftover Prima paper. On the left, I used an Echo Park Creative Agenda journaling tag cut down to stamp the IHOP on using Avery Elle Clark's ABC's stamps. I taped it down on the bottom only to make a tuck-in spot for the other card. The right has a printed sentiment I wrote in PSE. Here's where you learn why the pig is the new bunny. "Everyone knows eggs go better with bacon!" hahaha Or huge groan, lol. Well, it's my attempt at justifying using the adorable piggy instead of a bunny. And tying IHOP into the whole thing.

Close-up of what's in the tuck-in spot on the left side. I used a very old 7Gypsies journaling tag to announce the gift certificate being sent by email. I went last week to the IHOP website to buy a physical gift card to be mailed, but I first searched the IHOPS where they live and they all said takeout only and I got to wonder if they could even use the gift card, so I decided to talk to my daughter when she called me on Sunday like usual, and she told me oh yeah, send one by email, that's fine. So that's what I did. Go figure, theirs has been open for inside dining the whole time and they've kept going regularly.

The back of the card is matted with the same paper as is on the front, with a leftover strip of the turquoise and a circle-punched hand-stamped I/O siggie that is stamped in Versafine Clair Warm Breeze and matches the card stock exactly in real life. Here the ink looks like royal blue and it is not! (sigh).

And the final view. Thanks for visiting. I hope you enjoyed seeing my card as much as I enjoyed making it. Stay well and have a happy day! XXO

No need to justify having an Easter Pig to me! My grandad used to have pigs and I grew up loving them. I volunteered for a while a few years ago helping with children's farm parties where we used to wash pigs, play with piglets and then feed them! Love the bright colours here Aimeslee. Thank you so much for joining us at Try It On Tuesday, Chrisx
