Greetings and Shiver Me Timbers, Mateys! (I'm actually shivering as we are having a prolonged cold spell). Hope you are warmer wherever you are! I'm sharing a postcard on a birthday card inspired by pirates and luggage.
About a year ago I saw a Cuttlebug Disney die of a pirate ship at a rock bottom price and just had to have it. Now mind you, I already have a Sizzix pirate ship that I've yet to use and it's probably a decade old, but no, I had to get another one. So when Sunday Postcard Art had the theme of Pirates a few weeks ago, I started in on creating with the ship die cut. I needed a pirate so I found Peg Leg Pete at Dr. Digi's. And then life got in the way and it all sat there in it's shoebox lid waiting for me.
The layout for the 4x6" piece and the greeting card was Split Coast Stampers sketch SC258. I turned it 90 degrees left to accommodate my images after resizing to 5x7" (A7).
The end game for this 4x6" card, as is often the case, is on a greeting card, and as one of my nephews is having a birthday soon, that is who I planned it for. Then this past week when SPA's theme was luggage, I was like, geez, I need to finish that because: what kind of luggage does a pirate have? A treasure chest! And the digi has one, so it's an SPA Twofer. And well, it took me so long that a new challenge is up as of today, but being late never made me a quitter, oh no! lol That plus there is no challenge expiration over at SPA, thankfully for me.
So I created the 4x6" first by Distress Ink blending a background of sky on top and water below, then I colaged a torn piece of brown scrap paper for sand. I colored the ship black with my Promarkers, then colored the pirate, bird and treasure chest digi. I used a Sakura gold metallic gel pen to add some shiney shimmer to his shoulder tassles, buttons and the chest. I used a silver one to color his hook. I stamped and heat-embossed the Apple Blossoms Ahoy There and the Skipping Stones Happy Birthday sentiment stamps on some brown scrap paper, cut the Ahoy There with a Lawn Fawn banner die and hand cut the Happy and Birthday. The white wave and the skull and crossbones comes with the ship die. Final thing on the postcard was to edge-distress with Sahara Sand VersaMagic chalk ink.
I then mounted the 4x6" onto a piece of DCWV Maps, Texts and Ledgers 8x8 designer paper collection map paper that I had cut out with my deco scissors and edge-distressed with the Sahara Sand and then with Charcoal Black VersaMagic.
For the inside, I used a brown patterned paper scrap and a deco-cut piece of the DCWV collection ledger paper for a mat. Then I combined several different stamps by Stampendous, Apple Blossom, Inkadinkado and Newton's Nook.
On the back, I used a leftover piece of the DCWV collection map paper cut with my deco scissors as the base mat. On that I laid strips of paper chevron strips that I cut out of the collection papers with an MFT Chevron die. I topped it all with a piece of brown scrap paper on which I'd stamped and heat-embossed my Lawn Fawn siggie on an Apple Blossom porthole and fussy cut out.
A final view. Thanks for visiting. Hope you are having lovely weekend. XOX

I love this pirate card! You made me laugh when you talked about having to buy another die when you already have a similar one. I joined a Spellbinder's monthly die club. I have yet to use them even though they are gorgeous. Maybe now that the card making rush for Christmas is over for me I can start trying something different. Life is getting back to normal. My daughter and grandkids moved back to her house, minus the husband. We had all the locks changed so she feels safe. My son-n-law saw me on a camera at his house having the locks changed and disconnecting the cameras. He is not happy with me. Oh well. Such is life!
Very fun card, clever design on the inside and you decorated the back too!! Thanks for playing along our December challenge at Die Cut Divas.

Fabulous darling, fabulous! I was very intrigued when you said you coloured your shop black. How clever to create a silhouette. I'll have to tuck that in the back of my memory. I always learn tips from you.
I think I'd be the same way with wanted another die of something I had, either because it captured my attention, or it was an "in" product. Yup, fall into that trap way too much.
Have a great week!
Absolutely blummin' marvellous. The Dr Digi Pirate is so masculine and fab, your ship, treasure chest and background, it's like looking at Long John Silver on an actual beach, LOVE LOVE LOVE this card, Great work Aimeslee. Love your background too. :)
