January 5th Weekly Post

 Happy 1st Sunday of 2025!
We've been getting ready for the Polar Vortex to hit us for the next few days. Wrapping house pipes, bringing in our potted plants to the garage and getting out the winter clothes. It was 75 degrees F this afternoon and the low tonight will be 31, so it's already begun to blow in as I'm typing this. I've been going to bed a little bit earlier so that I'm sleeping at night when it's the coldest, lol. As long as the power and internet stay on, I'm considering it to be great crafting weather!
The theme this week at Sunday Postcard Art is Dream, hosted by Deann.
You may have heard about the terror attack in New Orleans, Louisiana this week.
It's only 6 hours away from us and NOLA has been on my mind, praying for them and hoping this doesn't ruin the Mardi Gras season (the city's biggest celebration and moneymaker). The Feast of the Epiphany is tomorrow and that kicks the season off. Anyway, I wanted to make something with them in mind and this is what I came up with.
I wanted to use this Spellbinders die as it has the word Dream and 3 words that remind me of the meanings behind the Mardi Gras colors of green, purple and gold. I used my glitter brush markers and pens to color it.
I stamped a Technique Junkies background with Acorn Versafine Clair ink and trimmed it down to fit into the middle of the 4x6 base card that has gold glitter washi tape at top and bottom and green glitter washi on each side. I colored the stamped image (which is seaweed but I thought it looked like streamers) with black glitter and clear glitter. Then I added a bit of green glitter here and there. I added the word die cut and then 3 cat-eye masks cut with a Boss Kut die that I colored with the purple glitter and dotted with green and gold.

I've also got a guy card to share. On this one, I stenciled a background on Kraft card using an animal skin stencil and stencil paste mixed with some orange paint. When dry I layered it onto an orange card base. I cut the arrow using a Sweet N Sassy die set. The hip dude is a Funky Fossil stencil that I used with Crackling Campfire Distress Oxide ink. I cut an Impression Obsession sentiment to add below it. All card used is Stampin' Up except for the kraft card.
And here's the Splitcoaststampers sketch I used.
******************

And a card for a sister-in-law, also using the Hip Hip Hooray die for my sentiment. The focal is a 3D decoupage by Craft Consortium, layered onto red card. Another red layer is behind that with the top cupcake-punched using a Martha Stewart border punch. I cut a red balloon using an Xcut die and a white bow and string for it. The background designer paper is Colorbok.
And here's the Splitcoaststampers sketch I used.

Well, that's it for me this week.
I know the entire country here is getting the winter blast, but I haven't had a chance to look at the rest of the world. So if you are getting it too, please stay safe and warm and dry!
Thanks so much for the visit and hopefully I'll see you again next Sunday.

We're in the cold too. It was only 9 degrees when I woke up, but like you I am thinking this is excellent crafting weather. :) First I need to finish a bit of art space clean up though, but it is just as fun going through some things to reorganize them as crafting is. I hope to be done in the next day or 2 and then move on to some art, since the cold is supposed to be with us all week and maybe a big snow this weekend. I love that postcard. It feels like Mardi Gras for certain. And I really like the masculine card too. The orange with the grey and craft really works well. That's a cool stencil too. And that's a cute final card with the pup and the ice cream truck. I hope you stay warm, keep your power and have some fun crafting. hugs-Erika

Stay warm and safe, Aimeslee!! You're so right that this is wonderful crafting weather, though. Love your cards, you've executed the Dream theme extremely well. Your guy card looks transparent since its body matches the background, I had to check that you didn't use an acrylic sheet there, lol... xx

What a wonderful first card Aimes, I love the colours, I hope you're continuing to craft. The masculine card is amazing, I love the image and design. The last card is so cute, a promise of warmer weather. The UK has had some snow, some places more than others, we had rain and bad mist UGH! 32f here at the moment. The news tells us it's going to be down to -29f in some States, I hope you keep warm and safe. x

Love that awesome dream postcard with all of the colors and sparkle! Definitely a NO vibe! wonderful sketch cards and that image with the pup and ice cream truck is too cute! It's certainly winter over our way! Right now is 25 degrees, but feels like 12 degrees with a low of 8 degrees tonight. Stay warm and cozy friend!
