Happy Cinco de Mayo

Hope you've had a good day.
I have a tag, an art journal page and a food pic to share.
Michele's theme over at Tag Tuesday is Hats, so I made this tag to link up. The base is a 4x4" coaster. The sombrero and sentiments are from Joy Clair Design's Spicy Like That digi set. I sponged on a yellow base with Ranger Archival Buttercup ink. Then I applied Carved Pumpkin, Lumberjack Plaid, Rustic Wilderness and Wilted Violet DOX inks through a Funky Fossil Confetti stencil. I attached white snowball fringe at bottom and a Spellbinders topper die cut at top after stamping an Avery Elle striped frame for the top sentiment using Monarch Versafine Clair ink. I colored the sombrero with Promarkers.
I cut the bottom sentiment with a Lawn Fawn die. I stippled both sentiments with Ranger Archival Chrome Yellow. And done! Festive, no?
Well, here's how we celebrated: Taco Soup, corn muffins and sliced avocado.
Don't worry, it was delicious!
And the soup included this chopped up -- Honey's first banana pepper of the season, planted from seed back in February and nurtured by the plant grow lights we set up in the garage to keep our succulent plants alive and warm through the winter.
I'm linking the pepper and the meal up to Rain's Thursday Art and Dinner Date, where the current theme is Embossed. I have heat-embossing coming up, read on!
And here's another page for the Flowers theme I'm hosting at Art Journal Journey. I did a little paper piecing, heat embossing and doodling. I found two sheets of the same DCWV designer paper floral pattern (but in different colors) in my paper stash. I cut an 8-inch square of each, then quartered each diagonally and mixed them as shown. I doodled on the paper collage with glitter markers once adhered. I brushed along the outer edges with gold Wink of Stella. Putting the 8-inch square back together on the journal page using both paper patterns is a larger bit of "quilt" paper piecing and I added the faux stitching doodles to accent it.
Using more paper scraps, the focal sun image was also paper-pieced: stamped twice with Versafine Clair ink, then one was gold heat-embossed and the face was trimmed out. The paper piecing was then adhered to a bigger scrap of orange-y sun paper that I found in my scraps. Glitter pens accented the face and circles surrounding the embossed rays.
My doodling of faux stitches with a glitter marker...

The gold heat embossing...

And the sentiments: another SEI rub-on on tissue paper and a TH chit-chat phrase. I thought the two phrases went together very nicely for an uplifting and encouraging message.
And one last look.
👀
Looking at the finished page, I noticed how the sun looks a bit like a flower among the others on the paper, and at the same time the background flowers look also a bit like planets around the center sun.
Cool!
Thanks for the visit and for those who watch and enjoy King Charles' Coronation, God Save the King!

I love them! Great idea to use that coaster for your tag. I've got some of those coasters around here somewhere - now to figure out where. Have a fabulous weekend my friend.

I didn't see King Charles' Coronation, sadly, though I am hearing on the news that it was quite nice. I am one of the rare people who watched Queen Elizabeths' Coronation and it was quite the spectacle, filled with Pomp and Circumstance. I think they have chosen to trim Charles' Coronation down. He is trying to modernize the Royalty and show more support to the younger generations.

Your artwork is beautiful. You make it sound simple, but I know a lot of thought had to go into designing everything the way you did. Lovely, Aimeslee ...

We don't celebrate Cinco de Mayo in the UK but we are in the middle of 3 days of celebrations for the crowning of King Charles and Queen Camilla. The ceremony and parade back to Buckingham Palace yesterday were absolutely fantastic! Your Taco soup looks interesting and is something I have never heard of! I adore your Happy tag and love the confetti stencilling. Thanks for your latest entry for Try It On Tuesday! Your 'Flowers' journal page makes me feel very happy, love the flowers and the Golden sun but it is also that 'Bring on the Sunshine' quote that really finishes it off, hugs Chrisx

I'm a little behind for cinco de mayo I think-smile; it was a busy weekend. We actually had tacos on the third, so I suppose we celebrated early. Your card is great, and I particularly love that big pom-pom fringe. It's so fun. And your page is perfect for your challenge at AJJ too. I like how you went with embossed sun. That big sun is perfect for making the garden grow. And it works perfectly at the center of your paper cuts too. I hope you had a great weekend. And Happy new week. hugs-Erika
