Sleighing It

Happy weekend, everyone. I don't have the focus needed to edit this post down so I'm afraid it's a bit long and rambling. The card I'm sharing today is, for better or worse, one of my "concept" cards (as in, Gee, I wonder how it would look if I did this). AND I used paper scraps from my Christmas stash, because I'm still on that kick.
I printed out this adorable All Dressed Up Stamps Sledging Pup on Springhill Digital card to color with Promarkers. I envisioned him sledding down snow-covered mountains. Then I finally focused on his sweater and remembered I had some sweater-y Christmas paper scraps that looked similar and I got the idea to use them to make the mountains. So, before I knew it, I'd paper-pieced the entire background.

So, that's how my "concept" came about, especially after finding this Splitcoaststampers sketch! It  looks perfect, right? Had to choose it. I did resize it in PSE to A9 and added a Sizzix Treeline Thinlits die cut. I've really been on an A9 kick lately. 😎
The card base is Kraft with white mats front and back. Then, a large scrap of Basic Grey Blitzen, a sun, the treeline and 3 overlapping mountains made from very old leftover scraps from Chloe's Closet Sweater Weather collection, circa 2005! The top die cut sentiment is Stamplorations and the bottom stamped and white-heat-embossed sentiment is Hero Arts. The die cut is 3 layers glued together. All layers except for the sentiments, sun and trees are ink and edge distressed. I used Antique Linen, Dried Marigold and Hickory Smoke Distress Inks.  The sun was inked, as was the bottom sentiment card. The mountains were snow-capped with titanium white acrylic paint. I made dots in the sky using Gold and Ice White Viva Decor Pearl Pen paints and an embossing stylus. I used a Sakura Gold Shadow metallic gel pen to color the sled runners and holly berries, but everything else was colored with Promarkers.

I started with these scraps, left. And paper-pieced this background, right. I think it looks really cool just like that. 😍

Inside and back of card. Hero Arts and Stamplorations sentiment stamps.
Some detail shots:

And done. I was going for a retro vintage look in non-traditional colors. I'm pleased with it. And I got to include the slaying/sleighing pun as well as warm wishes with sweater mountains, ha!
😁
But wait, there's more! Since I posted Thursday very early, I'm waiting until today to share some food for Rain's Art & Dinner Date which is every Thursday and lasts a week. I've linked each dish to its recipe.
First up is a new dish we tried and liked, Hamburger Hot Dish Casserole. We ate it with garlic toast and a small salad of greens. Good comfort food!
and then, for dessert, Buttermilk Chess Pie. This pie's texture and density makes it taste to me like buttermilk cheese cake, if there is such a thing. It's so good, I couldn't even get a pic before we dug into it, lol.
Thanks for visiting me today! I haven't been able to answer my emails for over a week, but hopefully tomorrow I will be able to sit down long enough to do that. If you sent me something, hang on, I'll be answering soon! Stay well,  XOX

MY CHALLENGE PLAYLIST:
