Lighthouse Birthday

Hey there. Hope your weekend is going well. We continue to get a little rain every day and with cloud cover it's made for a bit of a respite from the extreme heat we usually have in August. Of course the trade offs are bugs, humidity and arthritis flares. Honey's feeling better though, he's no longer dizzy, thankfully.
The challenge at Double D is Lighthouses and a look at my stamps shows that I have 12 lighthouse images (and probably some digis, too). I have used about 6 of them over the years but that leaves several that haven't yet been inked. The Sweet n Sassy silhouette scene stamp I've used on today's card was one of those, as it finally got some Nocturne Versafine Clair on Distress Stamping card.

I chose this Splitcoaststampers sketch for my 4x6" layout design.
After stamping the lighthouse, I heat-embossed it with clear powder. To color it, I pulled Distress Crayons in various cloud and water shades (Blueprint Sketch, Cracked Pistachio, Salty Ocean and Tumbled Glass). I wanted to get a rough interaction of blue shades and since I find that the crayons are really difficult to blend well (no matter what Tim says), I decided to try them here and although the look took a while to get use to, I think I like it very much! I used Penny Black's A2 Antique Frame nested rectangle dies to cut the focal layer, white mat and black base mat. I used a dark blue strip of the original crayoned card for sketch element #2 and a stash scrap of marble blue paper for element #1. I created the framed sentiment in PSE and printed out and cut it out with deco scissors. I created foam and waves crashing around the rocky shore with a blue Wink of Stella glitter pen and a white Sakura Gelly Roll pen. Finally, I dabbed the lighthouse window with a yellow gold Sakura Starlight gel pen.
Inside I used Majestic Blue Versafine ink to stamp Avery Elle and Hero Arts sentiments.
A shot of the back with the front to show continuity. Another die cut black base mat, more blue stash scrap and a stamped and punched siggie.
And final view. I really love how this turned out and now I want to stamp all the scenes in that Landscape Silhouettes set that I haven't. And even though using Distress Crayons is a big fat gamble, I love the intensity of colors and unexpected results.
Thanks for the visit and stay safe! XXO

This card is a beauty and reminds me of some lighthouses not far from me. I like how the image is in black but still has some depth to it. And the blues are amazing. Glad to hear the hubby's feeling better. There are some weird bugs going around for certain. Have a super start to the new week. Hugs-Erika

This is amazing. My favorite of yours so far. I absolutely love anything with lighthouses on it. The way you did the water and sky turned out so beautiful. Were they watercolor crayons that you used. I have some and haven't used the in at least eleven years. Maybe, I should give them a try!
