Hey everyone, it's time for a new challenge over at Outlawz Festive Fridays with our May sponsor, Kate Hadfield Designs!
I have used Kate's Artsy Florals digital set, which is a newsletter subscriber freebie, so I can't show you a link (but you can download for free if you subscribe).
Here's a look at the set.
And here are the themes for this challenge. I went with Flowers.
I chose this Splitcoaststampers sketch for my layout design, but in PSE I resized it to 4 x 9 inches and then flipped it horizontally. I'd just like to note that this sketch is from April 6, 2005! Today, Slimline cards are all the rage, but this is the very first Slimline on the SCS Sketch Challenge and they called them Legal Size cards back then! 😂 Reading the forum thread was hilarious. They were like, oh cool, this is weird but interesting! People had trouble with the dimensions (what else is new? Still a problem today!). Finally someone suggested to just cut your cardstock to fit into a #10 envelope, lol. And the size we know was born! I LOVE reading stuff like this. It's like unearthing history to me.
So, after cutting my card base out of Recollections Heavyweight white card stock, I went looking to use up some of my thinner patterned paper and chose 2 ancient Gin-X papers, which I ink and edge distressed before adhering. Since I was making a Slimline, I arranged the flowers in PSE to fit onto my green panel after fussy cutting. (The flowers come in .png file format so they can be digitally layered.) I colored them with Promarkers using the GinX floral paper as a color guide. I also created and printed the "On Your Special Day" and stippled it green using Mowed Lawn DI, outlining with a Promarker after die cutting it with a Lawn Fawn fishtail banner die. I dug into my pink paper stash for a scrap to mat the white "For You" I stamped with Green Oasis VF Clair. I cut both with nesting MFT fishtail banner dies. A note about the "For You" stamp: it's an ancient D.O.T.S. stamp! Remember those? Dozens Of Terrific Stamps, a stamp company that was ALL the rage about the time the sketch I've used was created.
The Gin-X paper also has a 2005 copyright! No, didn't plan this, just Serendipity at work. For those who don't know or remember, Gin-X owner and Generation Xer Ginger Rohlfs based her paper lines on movies that were popular with Generation X. The 2 papers I've used look to be from lines based on the movies Desperately Seeking Susan and Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. I'm a Baby Boomer but on the tail end (born in 1956 - I use the socio-cultural history Boomer timeframe of 1943-1960 from Strauss and Howe's GenHist Theory), so I relate somewhat to Generation X and always thought Ginger's idea was cool. I bought several lines and still have some of most of them.
Inside, a Uniko sentiment stamped with Charming Pink Versafine Clair ink.
On back, more of the Gin X paper and a stamped/punched siggie.
Close-up of the flower centers' glittery shimmer created with my Spectrum Noir Glitter pens.
And final view. Thanks so much for visiting and I hope your weekend is wonderful! XXO
