Outlawz Color Tuesdays Guest Design Time!

HiHo, all and I hope your week is going well. It's time for a new challenge and another June Guest Design share for Outlawz Color Tuesdays hosted by Eureka Stamps. Here is my make:

Brown Chatterbox card base, various Kraft card stocks for my base mat, zig-zag line elements and focal mats; The Paper Studio and Simple Stories designer patterned papers used front, back and inside, lace and fabric strips from my stash; Promarkers used to color focal image and holly/berries. I used Spellbinders 6x6 Card Basics dies to cut the mats, Avery Elle holly/berries die, and MFT Chevron Stripes die (the zig-zag or ric-rac line elements).

For the challenge that starts today and ends on June 28, we have THIS inspiration photo:

This is from Pinterest and I did a bit of research to learn that vertical hanging garlands are a decorative  "thing" now, for any time of year. Using naturally acquired elements makes your make even cooler, like gathering twigs and/or moss to use from a nature walk. When I looked at this photo, I thought of birds and Christmas. The colors and textures remind me of homemade holiday garlands and also of hanging suet feeders for birds. So, I chose a Christmas Eureka digital image featuring a cardinal in a holly berry bush. I also tried to use the photo colors and used Kraft for the brown/natural elements.

I have used Outlawz current Wednesday sketch as well, resizing it to 6x6 and then turning it sideways counter-clockwise in PSE. I wanted the red lines to be vertical like the garland in the photo.

I haven't piled stuff on a card in a while, and I was in the mood so I did. I've had the fabric strips that I used along with the Chevron stripe die cuts to establish the vertical lines forever. I got out my Fiber Friend ruler and an awl and made little pierced dots on the edges of  the Kraft for interest and texture. I also tried to use liquid craft glue (Nuvo) to adhere the card stock layers instead of reaching for my tape gun or ScorTapes. I read a thread at SplitCoastStampers recently discussing this, and I have to say, it's certainly much quicker and gives a bit more wiggle time. Plus I really like how so far my bottle tip has not become clogged at all, so on heavier papers I plan to use more glue and less tape from now on.

I die cut some mats for the inside using a Spellbinders 6x6 Art Deco Fairmont Nestie Label. Then I cut a smaller mat out of white Springhill Digital cs, stamped my Paper Trey Ink sentiments with VersaMark and white-heat-embossed them. Then I ink blended Distress Ink over that and adhered to my card.

The back is more die cut mats, a strip of Magenta stash scrap trim-edged with deco scissors, another chevron stripe die cut and a Technique Tuesday siggie stamped on a Kraft scrap and embossed same way as the inside sentiments, then circle punched. I used 3 different "shades" of Kraft on this card as I was trying to use scrap stash instead of cutting more sheets and making more scraps, lol. I don't find it a problem. Browns are like Greens, both are good blenders within their respective color families.

And a final view. This is a really busy card with lots of layered elements, but I like the look. Thanks for visiting me and until next, stay well and craft on! XOX

  8. So beautiful Aimeslee! I love the way you have used the kraft and the earthy tones your card has.
I recently discovered Nuvo glue too. I use Aleene's Tacky glue for bigger surfaces, it comes in an "upside down" bottle that works well for me. But I was still having trouble with die cuts and such delicate things and the Nuvo glue has definitely filled that need.
