Happy Happy Birthday to My Honey!!

Happy Thursday! I hope this finds you safe and well. Yesterday was a BFD here at Casa Miguel because my hubby Honey is now 69 years young. I'm sharing the birthday card I made him.

Honey's sports hobby is golf and has been as long as I've known him. He has played a few times with old work buddies during the pandemic, but stopped when several people out at his old job got COVID and were hospitalized. As I know he misses it, I thought he'd like a golf-themed card. Happy to say, he LOVED it. He especially liked the wood plank background I added to be able to play in a wood-themed challenge (see Challenge #2 at end of post). Unexpected, I know, but it somehow works!

I used SplitCoastStampers sketch SC570. Instead of seeing a surfboard the minute I saw this sketch, I saw a golf bag, lol. I followed the sketch pretty well after resizing it half-sheet size (Honey likes BIG cards), except for one thing: the patterned ribbon was a scrap, what you see is literally all I could find. Wish I'd had just enough more to go all the way under the golf bag.

For this card, I used: SU card base, DCWV Heirloom Stack and Summer Stack papers, WRMemory Keepers 6x6 Gemstones embossing folder, Imagine That Digi Stamps Golf set (bag and sentiment), Artistic Outpost The Golf Club stamp set, Fiskars 4-way corner punch, ribbon and Eyelet Outlet winter white enamel dots from my stash, Coluzzle circle cutting tool.

Opening the card, on the left side I've arranged stamped images from the AO Golf Club stamp set, along with another sentiment printed from the ITDS digi set (colored with Promarkers).

Here's the right side of the inside, a poem I wrote and printed. I found a few birthday poems online and then edited them heavily to create my own wording.

Here's the back of the card - the photo is over-processed on purpose to lighten it. The wood plank paper is glossy card stock and very hard to photograph without glare and when I lightened it digitally, the glare went away. As you can tell from the other photos, the card base is definitely not lime green, it's avocado green. I've added a paper scrap from my stash and a circle-punched Technique Tuesday siggie.

The flags are also from the AO stamp set. I used the pre-colored version of the golf bag, printed it, fussy cut it and then added the green color with a Promarker everywhere there was a white diamond. Did that to coordinate it with the card base and green dry-embossed circle. I used the enamel dots because...golf balls, lol. And the sketch had some dots. I know the gemstone shaped embossing is huge for the circle, but I think it looks super-cool...and so did Honey. He was impressed I had a folder with a design that was so close to what's on actual balls and I was so jazzed when he said that because, you know me, I googled golf balls before embossing, saw that design, said hey, I have a folder like that! heehee

One last look. I feel like this was a big win for me in terms of recipient pleasure, which in this case is the same as guy card pleasure. Cards for Honey are hard for me, because I always want to do more than my very best work and it becomes a bit overwhelming, so I'm very happy this one was received so well!! Hope y'all all have a great day and I hope it quits raining here soon, lol. XOX

MY CHALLENGE PLAYLIST:
4.   Cardz 4 Guyz #268: Use Something New to Your Stash -- The ITDS digi Golf set and the EO enamel dots were recently purchased, everything else used is older than dirt. I think the ribbon was Scrapworks or Chatterbox - that's how old!
7.   613 Avenue Create #4 April: AG Only -- #1/8  Not playing the option this time.
8.   Scrapping4Fun #189: AG -- #3/3
9.   Through the Purple Haze #179: AG + Opt. Ribbon/Lace -- #2/3  Option played - ribbon!
14. CD Sunday Plus #58 Hosted by Margaret: AG --  #2/3 I used ITDS digi Golf set (bag and sentiments).

  3. Wow, such a fabulous card! Loving the design with the wood paneling and the sentiment inside bought a little tear to my eye - perfect 😁. I hope you've had a lovely week, wishing you a happy Friday and weekend! Hugs, Jo x

  4. So outstanding. I'm with your husband--the plank flooring is awesome!! Your golf bag is cool. With each card, I think I've seen my favourite, and this one ranks #1 with me. You are a great poet. I could never heavily edit poetry--it's a talent I lack. You wouldn't think so because I always win at scrabble.

  8. Such a wonderful golfing card Aimeslee, you're right the wood certainly works, love the take on the sketch, colours and the "heavily edited poem" which is so well written from the heart, with lovely words. 16. Love this card you made for your Honey! Clever way to use the sketch! My hubby is 69 next Friday and I still haven't started his card - I have to do it in stages because he comes into my craft room occasionally so I grab my moments when I know he's not around! I love your poem mash up! Have a good week, Chrisx

  17. I can see why he loved it - you knocked it out the park (or is it the golf course) lol
The wood paneling behind the focal image is indeed a great touch and works so well.
Happy Birthday to your Honey. May you two celebrate many more together.
    Hugs Monica
