Easter Card #4: Pennsylvania Dutch Paas Haas

Good Friday Greetings, Lovely Blogger Folk! Today I have another Easter card to share, this one is connected to some interesting American cultural history that I learned from my own family genealogy research. One of my relatives wrote a history of the Pennsylvania Dutch for the local Welcome Wagon up there years ago and I was able to read it. She detailed many customs that the German and Dutch immigrants brought with them from the Old Country. One was the PaasHaas or Easter Hare, which could miraculously lay eggs.

So, when I saw The Library Challenge's latest book, How to Speak Dutch, I wanted to make an Easter card for it using the colors on the cover and a few Dutch icon images we also associate with Spring -- tulips and windmills, to tie them to the PaasHaas custom. I combined a Stamplorations tulips stamp and an Artistic Outpost windmill stamp with The Paper Shelter's Funny Bunny digi. I had just gotten my new printer so I printed the colored version of the digi, but I did color both hand-stamped images, as well as the stamped My Craft Lounge sentiment with my Promarkers.

I remembered seeing this SplitCoastStampers sketch SC777 because it had 3 places for images and that's what I needed. But I did make some adjustments to the sketch in PSE. I resized it to half-sheet size (5.5x8.5") and I flipped the sketch horizontally as I thought my images would be better arranged that way.

I wanted some bright colors so I pulled a couple of sheets from a Jane Davenport mixed media paper pad I have. I also used some bright orange and hot pink SU card stock. The base is Springhill card stock. I cut 3 image mats with the pink paper using a Spellbinders Scalloped Rectangles die. I used my scalloped deco scissors to cut my images to fit onto the mats. I added a leftover MFT scalloped photo corner and 3 shiny vinyl flowers. I fussy cut the bunny for his mat. I love how it turned out. I think those stamped images are beautiful.

I used another of Jane's papers to decorate the back of the card. I love how this looks, she even has a little Dutch girl haircut, or is that a Dutch boy cut? Oh well, doesn't matter. It's a cool graphic look for the back. I added a small die cut of red scrap and and an EKSuccess siggie that I stamped, heat-embossed and circle-punched. I didn't add anything to the inside of the card. Instead, a hand-written note explaining the Paas Haas custom. This is for a family member who loves cultural history.

And a final view. FYI: I've begun using my cane and neck brace again. The pain and constant effort to move wears me out easily and then I have to rest. So I may be back with something else for the weekend or not, just don't know yet. I will take this opportunity to wish everyone a wonderful Easter if I don't see you before then. XOX

MY CHALLENGE PLAYLIST
2.   The Library Challenge #79: Teach Yourself Dutch -- I was inspired by both the cover and the title. I used the colors and elements of the cover (windmill, tulips), and hopefully my card is a reflection of the American tradition of the Easter Bunny being Pennsylvania DUTCH in origin.
4.   613 Avenue Create #3 March: AG + Opt. Slider -- Not playing option this time.
5.   The Paper Shelter Challenge #463: Easter Time -- #1/3  I've used TPS image Funny Bunny
6.   Colour Crazy Craft Challenge Week 12: AAG with Colouring -- #2/2 I used Promarkers to color the hand-stamped windmill and tulips images.
9.   Passion for Markers Week 585: Something Beginning with B -- Promarkers used / Bunny, Bow
14. A Place to Start March #3: Pick a Shape -- #4/8 RECTANGLE card and image shapes
19. Stamplorations April Theme & Photo Prompt Challenge -- #1/3  I hand-stamped the windmill and the Stamplorations Sketched Tulips, and there are curves on the egg and on my scalloped elements, as well as the curve of the 3 images. I also used the bright pink and some lime green.

What a great Easter card! I love that graphic you used also...so pretty and colorful. Way back when our kids were little we built a really cute playhouse for them. I painted the door and window boxes with Pennsylvania Dutch symbols. It was so cute. I hated to leave it when we moved, but we had no choice. I saw that picture of Easter cookies on this post and I had to save the picture. I'm making Easter cookies for my grandsons instead of buying candy. I think I may decorate them like that...they are gorgeous.
