Hello All! Hope your weekend is sunny and bright. I have been struggling with my motivation and my time management this month, and decided not to make any St. Patty's or Spring cards in hopes of at least making a few Easter cards. But I have a couple of guy birthdays to make for, so I thought I'd make them now with some green. I'm sharing the first one today with you. Such a simple card but it seemed to take forever, given my recalcitrant mental state. {Sighing and repeating, This too shall pass! lol}
This card is for my one nephew who is still a teenager. He's the youngest of 4 boys, so he's pretty mature for his age and has a conservative nature. We affectionately call him The Old Man, actually. So a traditional look is a good and safe bet here. And he likes green. I rifled through my papers looking for green and found 2 nice Lawn Fawn plaids. I combined them with a Bazzill navy blue 6x6 card base and white Springhill card stock for my mats and sentiments.
I cut the Sizzix Weathered Clock Bigz die out of the Springhill and heat-embossed it using Versamark ink and some Verdigris green powder. I cut the clock's hands, the Avery Elle Signature circle and the Verve Flourish trim dies out of a scrap of navy blue craft foam I had in my stash just big enough for my purpose, and I secured the hands with a very old Chatterbox stash brad. I hand-stamped a Wild Rose Studio circle sentiment and cut it with a Spellbinders circle die, then adhered it to the foam circle. Looks a little like a bottlecap, eh?
I used Outlawz current Wednesday sketch, resizing it in PSE to note measurement proportions. Of course, I could not use a bow and my nephew is not a ribbon guy, so since I am playing in a challenge to make a card in a different style or way than usual for me, I intentionally kept things spare and let the plaid papers and focal clock speak for the card.
I used my Xyron to adhere a circle of deli paper underneath the clock, then Xyron'd the clock to that. Because of all the negative nooks and crannies in the clock's numerals, there was a lot of Xyron stickiness. So I got out my Perfect Pearls Interference Green and brushed it all over the clock and the foam pieces since I couldn't keep it off anything once I began brushing. It gave everything a soft shimmery sheen that the camera doesn't fully pick up. But it's not glittery, so it's still manly, right? It goes nicely with the embossing of the clock, actually.
On the inside of the card, I matted with some white paper I had in stash and hand-stamped on the left using Divinity Design stamps and Papertrey Stamps sentiments on the right.
The back has more plaid and leftover scraps with a Technique Tuesday siggie heat-embossed and hand punched.
And a final view. It was very difficult for me getting used to this look. I kept wanting to add stuff, lol. But the more I look at it, the better it is getting, so here's to trying new and/or different things!
Thanks for visiting and have a great day! XOX

Wow, lots of green and lots of plaid, I know you thought you had to add more embellishments; but this is fine and to cover all four sides... great job. Thanks for sharing your cards with us at Double Trouble and Use Your Stuff.
Amy, I’m so glad to see you playing along with the Double Trouble challenge! Your card is terrific - that plaid is awesome. It’s a great “clean” card, perfect for the occasion. Thanks for sharing your talent with us!
Well, green is my favorite color so this card is a winner with me! And I'm also a fan of the 'less is more' look - I know your nephew will love it!

This is a great card for a young man! I love the colors you used. I don't know where your ideas flow from. Since I started coloring more I have very little desire to make cards. I am having quite a few problems with getting motivated to do the DT work especially since most of the time I really dislike the images. I guess I will figure it out.
Hi Aimeslee! :) Oh I love those cards, that plaid is gorgeous! (I'm of Scottish descent, so I love anything plaid!) :))
