Boho Bestie Birthday

Hey there. Hope you survived Monday better than I did. After my big birthday weekend, I knew I would have to rest because of my health issues. So I slept a lot Sunday but then woke up Monday morning with a swollen tummy (inflammation) and I felt like a mack truck had hit me. This meant I was having a flare and it was pretty bad, but by nighttime I was incredibly exhausted and sore but stable. So of course I headed to my play room. It's early Tuesday now and I'm headed back to bed for a nap, but I wanted to share this card first.

The idea to use this sketch as my layout came when I saw the corners and remembered I've had these 4 black fabric photo corners forever and this would be a great time to use them. So that informed my paper choices and I was off! I chose a print from Colorbok's Bright Ideas pad for the outside and another print for the inside. And I cut some black shimmer card stock for mats. Then I chose a green card base I had already cut.

I went with a green color scheme because green is making me happy lately, plus this Bestie is rocking an organic Boho look that I thought greens would complement. I used 2 Quickutz Nesting Hexagon dies to cut my printed digital image and a mat for it. I colored the image with ProMarkers and accented with Sakura gel pens. I fussy cut some leaves from a leftover scrap of the paper I used for the outside panels, and arranged them on the right side underneath my silk and paper flowers with enamel dot centers. I added another paper flower on the left and a few green sequins all around.

Since my photo corners were the only thing stitched, I cut some white grosgrain ribbon with black stitching to frame the layout. I added the Stampin' Up sentiment at a slight angle and off-center a tad, because the Bestie is as well. I die cut with the side flowers in mind giving a bit more room for them.

On the inside of the card I added a gorgeous print from the same paper pad. I cut an Avery Elle flag out of light green scrap and stamped a HOTP sentiment.

The back of the card features the same patterned paper as is on the front, but here you can see it full force. Isn't it cool? I combined paper leftovers and an Impression Obsession siggie heat-embossed in white powder.

Close-up of the Bestie image. I wish I knew her name. All the dolls in my set are just numbered. I am very happy with the coloring job I did on her face and in the variety of green shades I used. I'm still a basic colorist and possibly always will be but the more I practice the more I decide on what works for me.

And a final look. I love this color combo and I always enjoy coloring up My Besties and using a good basic sketch. All in all, satisfying and therapeutic. I hope you enjoyed sharing it with me. Here's to a great week for us all. XXO

This card is a showstopper. That is one cute stamp and it is showcased so nice with the added flowers and green sponged area around her. You always do so well with sketches.

Have a great day!

Oh no, you DID party too much - I was afraid of that! Glad you're feeling better, my friend! I absolutely LOVE this card! That image is so adorable and your design is divine, as usual! I have some hex dies (as well as octagons) in my stash that I've never used. Thanks for the inspiration!

Don't you just hate having to "pay the piper" just because you wanted to enjoy a somewhat normal activity on your special day? I understand completely, and have become rather protective of myself these days, for the same reasons. Hoping your flare dissipates soon. Now... I love your My Besties creation. Her big-eyed girls are a pure delight to color, aren't they? I always feel my inner little girl emerge when doing one of her images. The greens are especially pretty, and that designer paper is GORGEOUS! Loving your sweet card, and the fabulous design! hugs, de
