Trick or Treat/Time for Autumn

Hello, happy Saturday, hope everyone is a-okay.  Today I'm sharing the first spread in my collage practice journal, which is a 9.5x5.5-inch wirebound sketch journal I found too tall for comfort, so I'm giving it a new purpose: impersonating a travel journal (TN) so I can play along at TN Time with Lisa and Lori, a sketch challenge.
The size of my journal is pretty close to regulation, so the sketch works. I'm using this practice to wind down, relax, take a break/diversion from my regular work. I've filled some spreads with patterned paper backgrounds using different layouts ready to collage on. So far it's been a welcome respite of pure play so I aim to continue.
I began working on this spread for a few minutes here and there as soon as the sketch challenge went live back in September. I used several Gecko Galz collage sheet images and knew October's theme would be Halloween, so decided to do that theme. I limited my supplies to my Halloween scraps box (which isn't all that limiting as it's full of leftover bits and bobs).
I fished out a Sizzix/Tim Holtz Bigz Rickety House and a Tree die cut from my bits & bobs and colored them with my Promarkers' chisel end, just making lines with 2 different shades, black/grey for the house and browns for the tree. Because TN Lori's optional challenge twist was to use a doily and use mint green, I used my Mint Green Promarker to color some of the windows and outline the images. It kinda looks like it's glowing, heehee-green slime, anyone? ๐Ÿ˜ The sweet little witch, the owl/pumpkin and the Trick and Treat tickets are all Gecko Galz. I used a white gel pen to trace over the Trick and the Treat and found the die cut letters for the word "or" in my cup of orphan alphabet letters. The golden leaves strewn about were leftover orphans as well, originally cut I think from Tim Holtz Fall Foliage Thinlit dies. There's a strip of black washi with silver spider webs peeking out from underneath the tickets.
On this side, the two ladies and the scalloped pumpkin image are all Gecko Galz. I just had to use that pumpkin element because it's mint green -- score! And I proved it because see that thin outside green strip? It was originally white and I colored that with my Promarker. It looks identical to the green inside the scallop. I added the doily and leaves from my Black Hole of Stash. The center element is a little ditty written by moi in PSE, printed out, cut with a Spellbinders die and colored with Promarkers. I also used a Spellbinders scalloped rectangle nestie to cut a candy corn frame for the lady at top.
And one last view. I had fun making this, and that was my goal. Thanks for visiting and taking a look. Until next time, stay well and craft something! ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿ˜Š
MY CHALLENGE PLAYLIST:
I followed the sketch and used mint green and a doily.
I used GG images from October Monthly Gothic Challenge, Altered Halloween, Vintage Halloween and Oct. 2017 Monthly Sheet
Die cuts used: Rickety House, Tree, Scalloped Rectangle and Circle, Leaves, Label

  2. You have SO much going on with the beautiful background to the creepy house to the witch. What fun. I couldn't take it in all at once, and every time I look at this two page spread, I see even more, including the candy corn. Thanks, too, for sharing this with us at Art Journal Journey and Tracey's theme.

  12. What a darling layout. Your journal will be filled with beauty. I really should have read my e-mails after I got back from holidays. Last night I made a mini journal and couldn't find a doily in the colour I wanted. If I read your lovely post, I would have coloured one to be suitable.
