Crummy Tummy Thinking of You

Hello again! I've been distracted by a few days of better weather and my allergy meds. Everything's taking me longer than the usual longer!  I did manage to finish this card I'm sharing. It's for a girlfriend's mom who had a recent bowl obstruction scare at 92. I thought she would like a card.

I found this Lemon Shortbread digi Teddy Bear Banner in my files and I thought, how perfect! I added the sentiment in PSE before printing. I had this one 12x12" sheet of very old get-well-themed scrapbooking paper (Karen Foster? American Crafts? Those are my guesses.) I used the largest of my Tutti Stitched Rectangle Slimline dies to cut 3 pieces from it, which used up most of the sheet, leaving only word scraps for my art journaling. I also used Springhill Digital for the card base, SU navy blue card stock, and green and red stash scraps. I cut the hearts and Art Impressions medical mini die cut from Springhill scraps. The smaller sentiment words on the right were stamped with VersaMark and heat-embossed with white powder. They are on a strip of the navy SU I die cut using a Tim 5.5" File Tab border die to get that tab (which I adhered to my card front before stamping and embossing the "Prayers" like the stoopid allergy-med-induced airhead I am, so I had to add after the fact - Sheesh!).

I followed SplitCoastStampers sketch SC846, resizing to 4 x 9".  The big rectangle was just made for Crummy Tummy Bear, don't you think?

For one of the challenges, I needed stitching, real or faux. In addition to using the slimline stitched die, I used my Fiber Friend ruler to poke holes around the edge of the navy card stock matting the focal image.

Another challenge was to use glitter or metallic inks or paints, so I took a red metallic Posca Paint Pen and traced around all the stitching so it would show up more. I also colored the bear's bow and the punched hearts with red Wink of Stella glitter brush pen. I used a brown metallic marker to color the bear's brown fur. The bear's foot pads and tummy/snout/ears colored with Promarkers, as was the pale green banner.

I have marked out the name of my girlfriend for privacy. I created the sentiment in PSE and matted on more of the die-cut paper.
And still more of the die-cut paper with some scraps cut with various dies I pulled off my magnet wall. The red die cut is Spellbinders from the same die set as the larger red and green squares on the card front. Both the navy and green die cuts are Papertrey Ink. The white-heat-embossed stamp is I/O.

I hope this card brings a smile to my friend's mom and to her. They both went through a scary experience that thankfully had a happy ending with only 2 nights in the ER. I admit feeling a bit emotional about it because both my maternal great-grandmother (in 1938) and my mom (in 2010) died on the operating table with bowel obstructions too far gone to repair. In my mom's case, she fought surgery for years fearing the same fate and because of that fear she met the same fate. Not me! This is my PSA to you all: get your colonoscopies and follow your doctor's recommendations!

Thanks for visiting and I hope everyone has a good week's end! XOX

  4. I LOVE your card and the puny sentiment, your friends Mom will be over the moon with it. Love the insert, very true. I'm so happy to hear she pulled through it.
A scary experience to be sure. My friend's mother died just after her operation, they had left her too long saying she just had diarrhoea and sickness. Until my friend screamed at them, then they took her seriously. I'm glad the lady has got over her operation to live to be a 100, I hope.

  12. Have to start with sympathy for the Hay Fever and other allergies. As a fellow sufferer I know just how miserable it can be so hope you have some good meds to help keep things manageable. x This is a delightful card and for such a good cause any health issue at 92 is scary and a bowl obstruction could be very serious. I'm sure she loved this. Thank you for sharing with us at Inspiration Station and good luck x
