Groovin' 65th Birthday

Hiho, my dear blogging friends! Are we having fun yet? LOL Well, here's a card to help you get there. Another one of my girlfriends is turning 65. This time a childhood friend since second grade. She has always been a free spirit. At our 30th high school reunion, she wore a black bustier with garters and hose, and nothing else! I asked her why and she said, "Well, it was my Halloween costume and it fits. I'm celebrating that." And she did look fabulous. So, I'm hoping she will get a kick out of this throwback to disco, which was the rage as we were becoming old enough to drink and vote. We  did our fair share of time in disco clubs with lighted dance floors and mirror balls! heehee

One thing I could NOT do was to put her age on the card. She doesn't do them and I would never hear the end of it. So I had to be happy referencing it...subtly. I went with Beccy's Place Disco Fever Groove Chick (my name for her) for my image. And I love that I still have several sheets of 12x12 Basic Grey Fusion designer papers, the circles sheet pattern almost perfectly mimicking this Groove Chick's dress pattern. So of course I had to use it! All of the papers as well as the card base are BG Fusion.

Since Groove Chick is a tall and skinny image (hey, I smell a future Slimline card haha), I spied this Split Coast Stampers sketch and chose it, resizing in PSE to 5x7".

Groove Chick was colored with my Promarkers. Her metal accessories -- earrings, bracelets and belt, as well as her finger nails, all were colored with a Sakura metallic Gold Shadow get pen. This is a very simple card as to design and wanting to keep it flat, I accented it with just 3 gold sequins. The most complicated this card got was that I did a little hybrid digi work in PSE by layering the "Groovin'" sentiment from the stamp set on top of the digital image at her boots and then typing the other words around it. I rather like the effect of it. "Groovin'" got a coat of the gel pen as well.

For the inside, I lined it with another sheet of the BG Fusion dp and then added the printed sentiments. The "disco fever" comes from the Disco Fever set and the other sentiments are in the Old Mailbox set (no longer sold).
For the back, more of the BG paper I used on the front and a stamped Impression Obsession siggie.

Close-ups of the Groove Chick!

I love her. <3

And for grins, a shot to show the designer paper and how it provides for the look of continuity for the card.

...and a final view of the front. Thanks for visiting today and I hope you enjoy your day! Until next time, XXO

  7. This is such a terrific card to celebrate a confident gal at 65! Love the side panels which perfectly reflect the time period. Your choice of colours for the dress are also a great reflection of the time period. Are we really THAT old?
