I'm sharing my 4x6" art today for this week's Sunday Postcard Art theme of "Poppies" and combining it with Thanksgiving, as I have enough Veterans Day decorations for my art corner. So, I'm giving poppies another chance to shine.
Paper: Springhill white card stock, recycled chipboard
Images: Flavia calendar page
Ink: Promarkers
Dies: IO and MFT grass, Lawn Fawn grass and clouds, Memory Box poppy, Spellbinders Classic Scalloped ovals, Little B large scalloped circle
Other: N/A
I added freshly die cut poppies to the mix and got started coloring. The focal point of this piece is a very old page I kept from a Flavia calendar I once had. Each page had one of her quotes. I wanted all the poppies red so I simply colored them. ;-)
So here is everything I used all colored up and ready to collage. The base of the card, by the way, is the thin chipboard backing that USPS puts into the cellophane package with each sheet of stamps sold online. HUGE waste of paper and plastic on their part but great source of card bases for me! I simply cut to the size I need.
I popped the two top stitched clouds up with foam tape. There are two layers of different grass die cuts along the bottom, with a third layer of grass clumps on the top of that, colored in contrasting shades of green.
The poppy die cuts are tucked between the card and the grass layers. Glue dots on the flowers hold them in place adding a tiny bit of dimension.
Thanks for dropping by and I hope your weekend is everything you've planned. Stay well and safe, XOX

ReplyDeleteLove this card! Especially the grass layers and the poppies. I have been thinking about making some card fronts for things that I want to try, but not necessarily send to someone. I never really thought about backing the images and putting them on an easel. I do usually keep one card, the most recent, on an easel on my craft desk. I had to laugh when you mentioned your husband putting on his glasses to look at your artwork. I usually like to start working about five in the morning. My husband usually gets up around 7:30. He comes and sits down in my craft room for a little while to talk. I always ask him if he would like to see what I was working on then I realize he doesn't have glasses on. The response is usually "what is that supposed to be." He is nearsighted so all he sees is a fuzzy image on a card.
ReplyDeleteI love your card, it's fantastic.

This is beautiful, Aimeslee. Love the way you added the stems and poppies for the border. Beautiful. I so wish we celebrated a Thanksgiving Day over here...it's a great way to focus your heart before the madness of Christmas, though not this year... Hope you're staying virus free. My living room laptop keyboard isn't working properly, so I'm not getting chance to comment on what I look at unless I remember to do it on this laptop! Sorry I haven't been around much.
